Women's Political and Civil Groups (MNSM) on Extrajudicial Killings in Sudan

#Statement

The ongoing war in Sudan is witnessing gross human rights violations, with warring forces committing heinous crimes of slaughter, rape, arson, and killing of civilians, resulting in immense human suffering, especially among women and children, who are among the most vulnerable groups in armed conflicts.

MANSAM condemns in the strongest terms the brutal crimes of extrajudicial killings committed by jihadist brigades and other armed militias allied with both sides of the war in Sudan. The proliferation of these armed groups and their involvement in killings and gross violations against civilians represents a dangerous escalation that deepens the suffering of our people and poses a direct threat to fundamental rights and public freedoms, particularly the rights of women and the most vulnerable groups.

We at Mansam affirm that these crimes contravene the principles of international humanitarian law and constitute a flagrant violation of the human right to life and security. The complicity of the warring parties in allowing the presence and arming of these brigades constitutes yet another crime adding to the record of ongoing violations against the Sudanese people.

We call on the international community and human rights organizations to open urgent and independent investigations into these crimes and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. We also call on Sudanese civil and political forces to stand united against the militarization of society and reject the exploitation of religion as a tool to justify violence and terrorism.

The crimes committed by the warring forces in Sudan constitute a humanitarian catastrophe with long-term consequences for women and children. The role of legal professionals at this stage is crucial in documenting crimes, pursuing justice, and ensuring that perpetrators do not go unpunished. Sudan requires intensive efforts from the local and international community to hold criminals accountable, support victims, and work to end the war and build a future of peace and justice.

We, at Mansam, reaffirm our commitment to the peaceful struggle for a Sudan free of war and violence, where human dignity and rights are protected without discrimination.
