On the initiative of the women's political and civil groups (Mansam) and believing in the importance of education for the growth and advancement of nations, we present this memorandum for signature.
In light of the war that threatens the safety of students and the progress of the educational process, both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces bear the responsibility of protecting students and securing exams. Accordingly, we, the undersigned, call on the two warring parties to commit to a short-term ceasefire during the Sudanese Certificate Examinations period, in accordance with the terms of the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023, mediated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.
The government insisted on holding the exam, although the decision to hold the Sudanese Certificate Examinations in light of the war detracts from the right to justice in the educational process. Therefore, the government must:
• Ceasefire to ensure educational justice, as holding exams in the midst of war violates the principle of educational justice.
• Prevent the exploitation of the period for any military manifestations or hostile acts to reduce risks and ensure the safety of students.
• Ensuring the safety of students and families and providing protection for the travel and movement of female and male students to and from examination centers, especially from Darfur regions and conflict-affected areas.
• Facilitating the movement of families to follow up on their daughters and sons during the examination period.
• Protecting the entire examination period and ensuring the transportation and preservation of examination materials and preventing them from being exposed, leaked or damaged.
